Fighting for more affordable homes

Home / News / Rushey Green / Fighting for more affordable homes

19 January 2011
A busy December on Heathside Affordable housing was at the top of Heidi Alexander’s agenda when she spoke up in the House of Commons about the fate of the Catford dogtrack site.

Heidi was able to persuade the Housing Minister to meet with her to discuss the future of the site, which has become a dreadful eyesore, but wanted to make clear local feelings:

“In my constituency, the former Catford Dogtrack has lain empty for the last 7 years. It is owned by the Homes and Communities Agency and has planning permission for a scheme that includes 313 affordable homes”, said Heidi.

After the debate, Heidi added: “This site has blighted local people in Catford now for far too long. When hundreds of families in Lewisham need low-cost homes, it’s not acceptable that land owned by a government agency is left to languish. The site needs to be developed appropriately with investment put into Catford station at the same time. I’ll be putting these points to the Minister when I meet him.”
