02 November 2012
Heidi at PMQs This week I have been contacted by hundreds of my constituents who are concerned about the proposals to significantly cut services at Lewisham Hospital. At the time of writing, almost 13,000 people have signed my petition calling on the Special Administrator to recommend retaining Accident and Emergency and maternity services at Lewisham. Many of those contacting me this week share my belief that Lewisham Hospital should not have to pay the price for financial failures elsewhere in the NHS.

On Wednesday I put my concerns about the plans in a question to the Prime Minister. You can read our exchange here

Here are six ways you can help to save Lewisham Hospital A&E and maternity services:

1) Sign the petition. Join the thousands of people who have called on the Special Administrator to retain our vital services by signing the petition here. You can also print off a paper copy of the petition and collect signatures from friends, family, neighbours and colleagues here. All paper petitions should be returned to the Office of Heidi Alexander MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA no later than 6th December 2012.

2) Respond to the consultation. Tell the Special Administrator what you think directly by sharing your views in the public consultation here. Your response will then be collated and considered when the SA’s response is being decided.

3) Deliver leaflets in your area. If you can spare an hour to deliver some leaflets in your street please get in touch with us by emailing jamie@heidialexander.org.uk

4) Protest against the proposals. The Save Lewisham Hospital campaign has organised a Hands Around Our Hospital protest and march on Saturday 24th November. There will be a march from Loampit Vale roundabout at 2pm, followed by a peaceful protect at Lewisham Hospital at 3pm.

5) Make a donation. If you can spare a few pounds to help fund leaflets and other publicity materials, please get in touch with the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign. Details on their website here. Please note that these donations are being administered independently of the Office of Heidi Alexander MP.

6) Attend a public meeting.

The following meetings have been arranged by the Office of the Trust Special Administrator as part of the public consultation process, giving local people a chance to put their views forward. Detailed here are the meetings organised in and around the borough of Lewisham. Other meetings have been organised in South East London, the full calendar is on TSA’s website here
