adams cartoon This powerful and heartbreaking image from the Evening Standard today has brought tears to my eyes.

I can't begin to imagine the pain of those who have been affected by last night's attack in Manchester, but I do know that we must come together to defeat the hatred and division which fuels such heinous violence.

Those who have recently said we need to find ways to widen our definition of "us" (our shared values, way of life, and celebration of difference), whilst simultaneously eroding the notion of "them" are completely right.

Today is a hard day to think in this way but it's undoubtedly what is needed.

This evening (Tuesday 23 May) at 6pm a vigil will be held on Blackheath (opposite the shops on Royal Parade) to stand together in solidarity with the people of Manchester.
