Happy Christmas!

23 December 2014
Christmas 2014 It’s that time of year again when we are all running round manically trying to get everything sorted before Christmas. This year, it’s especially busy for me given the General Election which will be happening in just over four months’ time – lots of planning and preparation to be done before the New Year …

One of my favourite non-political tasks in the last week though has been to visit Holy Cross Primary School in Catford to present a prize to the winner of my Christmas Card Competition. I had hundreds of entries from schools across Lewisham East and as with every year, it was very hard (almost impossible!) to choose the winning design.

After much deliberation though (and with help from the whole office), the snowman design by Robert from Holy Cross was judged to be our favourite. It was lovely to be able to join an assembly at the school and to give Robert a poster of his winning design as well as a bag of goodies from the House of Commons’ gift shop.

Christmas is also a time though to spare a thought for those less fortunate than ourselves and as such, it was a privilege to visit the Crisis Christmas Shelter at Lewisham College. This year, I was pleased to be able to hand over a cheque for £130. Lewisham East Labour Party raised this money at our annual Christmas Curry and we couldn’t think of a more worthy cause to donate the funds to. The Shelter will be providing food and warmth to some of the neediest people in our community this Christmas and I thank them for all the work they do.

And finally, if you do want a break from Christmas TV and want to read what I’ve been up to in the last few months, please take a look at my latest e-newsletter. In the meantime, merry Christmas and a happy new year!
