Protecting the poorest and most vulnerable

09 February 2012

Yesterday I made the keynote address at Sitra’s Annual Policy Conference. Sitra are a charity which assists professionals and organisations working within the fields of housing, support and care – services which have been hit hard by the Coalition’s cuts.

Sitra asked me to address whether I believe the Government has kept its promise to protect the poorest and most vulnerable. This was a question that was unfortunately too easy to answer. If ever there was a time which shows us just how the Coalition’s policies are threatening the lives of the most vulnerable in society it is the week after the debate on the Welfare Reform Bill.

I addressed this in the speech, along with the impact of changes to legal aid, housing benefit and local government cuts.

You can read my speech in full here.
