Supporting the Robin Hood Tax at the G20

Robin Hood Tax Earlier this week I met with Robin Hood Tax campaigners at Parliament to show my support for their campaign. 80,000 people, including many of my constituents, have written to the Prime Minister in recent weeks calling on him to back a tax on financial transactions at this week’s G20 summit in Cannes. The tax will be proposed by Bill Gates at the G20 today and is being championed by Nicholas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel. The tax could raise billions of dollars to tackle poverty and climate change at home and abroad.

I have had lots of emails on this issue – so many people feel that our banks should be making a greater contribution towards tackling poverty and climate change. I agree that an internationally agreed Robin Hood Tax would be a great way to do it.
