The Government is failing the NHS
When David Cameron came to power he promised to make the NHS his priority. He said he would “protect frontline services” and that there would be no more “top-down reorganisations” of the Health Service.

Mental health matters
Last week I spoke in the Backbench Business Debate on Mental Health. It was the first time that a general debate on the subject of mental health had taken place on the floor of the House of Commons and so it was an important day.

Proceeds of crime …
As well as writing to Ministers at their Government departments, and asking questions in the House of Commons, Members of Parliament can submit written questions to Ministers.
A busy day in the constituency
After a week dominated by the Queen’s Speech, it was great to spend a couple of days out and about in Lewisham.
Camilla on work experience in my office
While I never take interns in my office (I believe if there is a job to be done, that person should be paid), I do try to take as many work experience students from my constituency as I can.
Raising awareness of families with disabled children
Lewisham Parent & Carer’s Forum was set up to provide support for parents of children with disabilities, special educational and additional needs. This week I was delighted to speak at their first Raising Awareness Day.
The need to tackle the unemployment crisis
The latest statistics show almost 29 people are chasing every JobCentre vacancy in Lewisham East. Last week I saw that figure put into perspective as I spent the morning visiting JobCentre Plus in Rushey Green.
Save Citizenship Education
Last week I had the pleasure of spending a morning at St Matthew Academy in Blackheath to lend my support to their Save Citizenship Education campaign.
Regenerating our towns and cities
Yesterday I spoke in a debate on Regeneration, and highlighted the inadequancies of the Government’s “community-led” strategy. Speaking on behalf of a constituency where 29 people are chasing every job vacancy (whereas in Mr Cameron’s constituncy that ratio is just 2:1) I focussed on the the need for geographically based area regeneration.
