22 November 2009

I took some time off from canvassing today to visit the homes of some of Lee Green’s local artists. The Open Studios are in their 10th year and seem to have been a brilliant success yet again.

We bought some really cool photographs by a student called Hannah Dennison White – including one of a Berlin Street Sign “Lewishamstrasse” – who’d have thought that you’d find a street named after Lewisham in Berlin? (it’s because Lewisham is twinned with Charlottenburg – a district of Berlin – but that’s another story).

I also couldn’t resist the cards which have been made from historical images of the local area – there’s an amazing photo of Manor House Gardens on Empire Day in 1908 and of course I had to get a few cards which feature Manor Park (it’s amazing how little it has changed over the last 100 years).

We’d have loved to have visited all the exhibitors but we just ran out of time – even more of a reason to go back next year.
