“Colin is such a positive role model to the youngsters he works with – he refuses to take second best for anyone and he makes sure that the pupils who struggle to keep up in the classroom are not left behind. He has been critical to the success of the Black Pupil Achievement Project at the school and he has helped change the lives of hundreds of young people.

“I am delighted that Labour is honouring Colin’s professionalism and dedication.”

Presenting the award, Ed Balls said:

“One of the great privileges of this job is that I meet with and work with so many inspiring people who, whatever their role, together make up an army of people devoted to extending opportunities to the children and young people of this country.

“Inspiring people like Colin work day in day out to give our children the education they deserve. That’s why I wanted to just say thank you to all those who work so hard to give others the best start in life.”
