Tree planting in Lee Green

Tree planting in Lee Green Last Friday I took a break from the office to head to Lee Green to plant a tree in the grounds of the old Crown Estate. I was joined by Steve Howlett, the Chief Executive of the Peabody Group who took over the estate earlier this year, and Jill from the Lee Green Residents’ Association who made a great speech on the community spirit of the area.

I had a lovely time chatting to the residents of the area, who were being given window boxes of vegetables and flowers as part of Peabody’s well-being initiative, before planting the tree. I’m told it was a Tulip Tree (I’m afraid I can’t remember the Latin name!) and I hope it fairs better than the Wisteria Tree in my back garden which is looking a little worse for wear at the moment.

It was great to see Peabody putting its community programme into action by taking its Lottery-funded ‘well-being bus’ to the estate, but regret that I had to get back to the office and had to miss out on the free massages and smoothies they were giving away!
