It’s time to make Hither Green Station accessible to all
I have launched a petition urging the Government to act now on accessibility improvements to Hither Green Station.
The future of Leegate
In the last few weeks, I have had a number of discussions with local people about the proposed redevelopment of Leegate.
Progress for Leegate?
In the two years that I have been the MP for Lewisham East, the state of the Leegate shopping centre has been a source of much local concern. Boarded-up shops and a poor quality environment have led Leegate to be branded one of the worst town centres in the country. Along with local residents and Labour Councillor Jim Mallory, I have been pressing St Modwen (the owners of Leegate) to come up with a long term regeneration solution for the area.
Visiting Trinity School
This morning I had the pleasure of visiting Trinity School in Lee for their year 11 citizenship class. The school really has transformed in the past three years with a brand new building, a great new headmaster in Father Richard Peers and pupils getting five A*-Cs going from 27% to 64%.
Tree planting in Lee Green
Last Friday I took a break from the office to head to Lee Green to plant a tree in the grounds of the old Crown Estate. I was joined by Steve Howlett, the Chief Executive of the Peabody Group who took over the estate earlier this year, and Jill from the Lee Green Residents’ Association who made a great speech on the community spirit of the area.
12 March 2011
Just wanted to post a quick note about my fanatastic visit to the new Trinity School (formerly Northbrook) on Taunton Road and the equally fantastic blog that has been set up by local parents to support Trinity on its journey to being a great local secondary school – see timefortrinty.
Hands off our homes
Earlier today I joined residents in Lee Green to protest against the Crown Estate’s plans to sell off their homes to a new landlord. Lewisham East’s current MP Bridget Prentice was there, as were a large number of concerned residents
Supporting Local Business
The last year or so has been a difficult time for businesses up and down the country. That’s why I’ve been keen to do whatever I can to support local enterprise
Lee Green Assembly
I went along to a well-attended meeting of the Lee Green local assembly last night and whilst a few hot issues were thrown my way, the whole evening reminded me why I chose to make this part of London my home.
Hither Green Station Clean Up
I was really pleased to be able to go and help out with the clean-up at Hither Green Station on Saturday afternoon (I’m pictured above with Labour’s Lewisham Central Candidates for the Council elections next year, Damien Egan and Mike Harris).
