“Don’t Dump in Downham” – a step forward
Last month I hosted a meeting which sought to tackle one of the biggest problems which blight our neighbourhoods - fly tipping and the cleanliness of our local streets.
Don't Dump in Downham
On Saturday 26th July 2014 at 11am, I will be hosting a “Cleaner Streets Summit” to find solutions to problems of fly tipping, litter and dog fouling in the Downham, Whitefoot and Grove Park areas.
Save Downham Fire Station
If you have been following the news recently, you will have seen that London’s fire service is under threat of drastic cuts in the coming years. A significant number of fire stations have been earmarked for closure, including Downham in South East London.
Downham Tamil Cultural Event
I had a great evening yesterday at the Downham Tamil Association’s Navarathiri and Black History Month Celebration. With over 80 families bringing their children to the Association’s supplementary school, there was a plentiful supply of excited children to perform on the stage – and they were all fab!
North Downham Festival
Along with Whitefoot council candidates, Janet Daby and Matt O’Mullane, I went along to the official opening of the North Downham Community Festival at Goldsmiths Community Centre yesterday.
Apprenticeships: the way forward
Last week I was lucky enough to spend some time with a group of young apprentices in Downham. Tom, Bradley, Dominic, Michelle and Maria are all taking part in a painting and decorating scheme which is funded jointly by Lewisham Council and Phoenix Community Housing.
Bromley & Downham Youth Club
It was a real pleasure to visit the Bromley & Downham Youth Club this evening and to see how Lewisham Council money is put to good use for local youngsters. The Club was heaving and is testament to the excellent range of activities on offer and the dedication of the Club’s Trustees.
Southend Village & Bromley Rd Update
Over the last few years I have been leading work within Lewisham Council on the new planning guidelines for the Bromley Rd/Southend Village. Many local residents will know that back in 2007, in response to residents’ concerns, I insisted upon a special document for this area to look at how we might manage developments on sites such as the former Green Man Pub, the former Tiger’s Head Pub and the former Courts site.
