Better Homes for Catford Above: Catford South Labour Councillors (from left) Robert Massey, Eva Stamirowski and Alan Smith supporting investment in Catford Homes

Giving everyone the opportunity to live in a decent home has been a priority for the Labour government and in Lewisham, the council has levered in a significant amount of money to improve the quality of local housing.

In Catford, local council tenants have expressed an interest in transferring the ownership of their homes to a housing association and a group of residents have chosen L&Q as their preferred investment partner. Before any homes can transfer to L&Q (and before work can start on a whole range of internal and external improvements to the properties), a ballot of tenants needs to take place.

In order to help residents make up their mind about transfer, L&Q have opened a number of show homes in the local area to give an example of the standard of work they would carry out. Today I went along to the show home on Arngask Road and was really impressed with what I saw. The ballot is likely to take place some time in the new year.
