/ Meeting Conisborough’s School Council
I had a great morning at Conisborough College yesterday with the School Council. They had lots of challenging questions for me and I was really impressed with how the teachers took a back seat and the pupils completely led the questioning. Questions ranged from how I made a difference to the local area as an MP, whether I enjoyed my job and what the most embarrasing thing I have ever done was (had quite a choice of answers to the latter, but had to think hard about the appropriateness of my reply!).
I always enjoy going to Conisborough – it seems to be going from strength to strength in the last few years. The new building, courtesy of the Labour government’s Building Schools for the Future programme, an excellent Headteacher in Bob Ellis and the new partnership with Colfe’s seem to have brought a new energy to the school. I am due to be teaching a lesson there in a few week’s time as part of a Teachfirst initiative to get MPs into the classroom. I’d asked to teach a Geography lesson but seem to have been allocated English – hmm – am hoping it’s not Shakespeare as I was never very good at that at school! I told the School Council to tell their friends to be nice to me.
