Lib Dem Councillor joins Labour
Lewisham’s Liberal Democrat Councillor for Blackheath, Amanda De Ryk today announced her decision to join the Labour Party and resign her Lib Dem membership.
A bullet-proof Arms Treaty
On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the annual Amnesty Booksale at the Church of the Ascension in Blackheath. Not only were they raising money for Amnesty but they were also campaigning on the need for a robust, international treaty on illegal arms trading.

Olympic missile site in Blackheath?
Many Blackheath residents may have heard the recent news that the Ministry of Defence are considering the use of the Heath as part of their air security plan for the Olympics. I have made my opinions on this clear to both BBC News (see here) and in a letter to attendants at the recent Blackheath Local Assembly (see here).
No to Blackheath Station Car Park Charges
At the end of last month Network Rail announced its plans to increase parking charges at Blackheath Station. News of the rise came just a few weeks after Network Rail decided to take back operation of the car park from Lewisham Council.
Happy 30th Birthday Wash House!
Last week I spent a lovely evening at the Church of the Ascension on Dartmouth Row celebrating the 30th birthday of the Wash House Youth Club. It was great to see so many people there and it was inspiring to hear about the ways in which the Club has managed to overcome a whole raft of challenges during its lifetime.
A great end to a busy week
Do you ever have those weeks where you just wonder where all the hours have gone? Well, I’ve just had one and whilst it feels quite satisfying to have achieved so much, I am now looking forward to a day off!
Fewer Trains to Cannon St from Blackheath
Given the huge number of people who depend upon the railway to get around in this part of London, regular train services to a variety of destinations are really important to residents in Lewisham East. Today I took up the concerns of local people in Blackheath about the reduction in the number of Cannon Street trains from Blackheath station in the morning rush hour.
Key issues in Blackheath
A few weeks ago the Blackheath Village Residents Group asked all local parliamentary and council candidates a series of questions on hot local topics. I agreed my answers with Labour’s council candidates in Blackheath (Paul Keane, Colin Elliot and Kevin Bonavia) and thought I’d paste a copy of my answers here.
Nursery reopens in new home
Earlier today I had the great pleasure of going along to the official re-opening of the Somerville Nursery on the Heathside and Lethbridge estate in Blackheath. Lots of mums and dads were there and even the kids had come in for a special day of play on a Saturday.
A busy December on Heathside & Lethbridge
It’s been a busy few weeks for me on the Heathside & Lethbridge Estate. The demolition of a number of buildings in the first phase of the estate’s regeneration got underway on Saturday 13th December and I joined a group of residents to mark the occasion.
