Prime Minister meets Lewisham’s Community Heroes at No.10

Lewisham was the main topic of conversation at a 10 Downing Street reception last week.
Kathy Gasson, the secretary of the Friends and Users of Staplehurst Road Shops (FUSS) and Lucy Sylvester, the secretary of the Lewisham Pensioners Action Group were invited by Deputy Mayor Heidi Alexander to join her for a conversation with Gordon Brown.
Heidi explained the reasons for celebrating Lewisham with the Prime Minister; “Lewisham is too often talked down instead of celebrated. I wanted to introduce Gordon to some of the volunteers whose hard work and dedication to their neighbourhoods make us all proud to live in Lewisham”.
“When the call came in from Number 10 I immediately thought of Kathy. I’ve seen with my own eyes the improvements that have been made to Hither Green as a result of Kathy’s work with FUSS and thought it was right to acknowledge her contribution.
And Lucy is just the sort of person who quietly goes about her work without seeking any recognition; I am really pleased that her efforts for pensioners in Lewisham were brought to the attention of the Prime Minister himself”.
